Everything you need to know about ScoutAI, ghost jobs, ATS systems, and AI-powered job searching.

Quick Answers

Q: What is ScoutAI?
A: ScoutAI is an AI-powered job search agent that scans 150+ verified job sources daily, filters out ghost jobs and scams using a proprietary Job Reality Score, matches roles to your specific resume and skills, generates tailored cover letters and ATS-optimized resumes, and helps you apply quickly with one-click Quick Apply. Unlike job boards that make you search, ScoutAI works for you.
Q: What are ghost jobs?
A: Ghost jobs are online job postings with no intent to hire. Up to 40% of job listings fall into this category.
Q: How does the Reality Score work?
A: Every job in ScoutAI receives a Reality Score from 0 to 100 based on how likely it is to be a real, active opening. ScoutAI's methodology runs 16 signals — ATS platform trust, posting age, repost frequency, salary disclosure, description specificity, named hiring manager, URL verification (cross-checked against the employer's careers page), scam keyword detection, generic title penalties, broken salary ranges, active application forms, buzzword density, company verification, platform ghost-rate baseline, title consistency, and cross-posting consistency.
Q: What is the Network Vault?
A: The Network Vault is your private repository of 1st-degree LinkedIn connections, synced via the ScoutAI Chrome extension. ScoutAI uses your Vault to compute a Path Score — an estimate of your interview odds at any given company based on who you already know there.
Q: What is the Path Score?
A: Path Score is ScoutAI's 0-100 estimate of your interview odds at a specific company. It's computed from your Network Vault — you start with a low base score for cold applications, and the score climbs as ScoutAI finds 1st-degree connections at the company, shared alma maters, mutual employers, or other warm-introduction signals.
Q: What is ATS and why does it matter?
A: ATS stands for Applicant Tracking System — software that companies use to scan and filter resumes before a human ever reviews them. According to Interview Success Formula, 75% of resumes are rejected by ATS before reaching a recruiter.

What is ScoutAI?

ScoutAI is an AI-powered job search agent that scans 150+ verified job sources daily, filters out ghost jobs and scams using a proprietary Job Reality Score, matches roles to your specific resume and skills, generates tailored cover letters and ATS-optimized resumes, and helps you apply quickly with one-click Quick Apply. What are ghost jobs?

Ghost jobs are online job postings with no intent to hire. Up to 40% of job listings fall into this category. Companies post them to build talent pipelines, signal growth to investors, satisfy compliance requirements, or collect resume data. According to ResumeUp.AI's 2025 analysis, 27.4% of LinkedIn listings are ghost jobs, and a LiveCareer survey found 93% of HR professionals admit to posting them.

How does the Reality Score work?

Every job in ScoutAI receives a Reality Score from 0 to 100 based on how likely it is to be a real, active opening. ScoutAI's methodology runs 16 signals — ATS platform trust, posting age, repost frequency, salary disclosure, description specificity, named hiring manager, URL verification (cross-checked against the employer's careers page), scam keyword detection, generic title penalties, broken salary ranges, active application forms, buzzword density, company verification, platform ghost-rate baseline, title consistency, and cross-posting consistency. Jobs scoring 80+ are marked 'Verified', 60-79 are 'Likely Real', 40-59 are 'Uncertain', and below 40 are flagged 'Ghost Risk'. The full signal spec is published at /data/reality-score-signals.json.

What is the Network Vault?

The Network Vault is your private repository of 1st-degree LinkedIn connections, synced via the ScoutAI Chrome extension. ScoutAI uses your Vault to compute a Path Score — an estimate of your interview odds at any given company based on who you already know there. Referrals beat cold applications by 4-10×, and most job seekers don't systematically use the network they already have. Your Vault is private to your ScoutAI account: not sold, not used for outreach, not visible to anyone else. Building it takes 3-5 minutes via the extension's 'Sync all to Network Vault' button on linkedin.com/mynetwork/invite-connect/connections/.

What is the Path Score?

Path Score is ScoutAI's 0-100 estimate of your interview odds at a specific company. It's computed from your Network Vault — you start with a low base score for cold applications, and the score climbs as ScoutAI finds 1st-degree connections at the company, shared alma maters, mutual employers, or other warm-introduction signals. The Score is shown on every job in your dashboard so you can prioritize roles where you have the most leverage. Referrals beat cold applications by 4-10×, so a Path Score of 70+ at a well-fit company is usually worth more attention than a Path Score of 20 at a perfect-fit one.

What is ATS and why does it matter?

ATS stands for Applicant Tracking System — software that companies use to scan and filter resumes before a human ever reviews them. According to Interview Success Formula, 75% of resumes are rejected by ATS before reaching a recruiter. ScoutAI's resume assessment scores your resume against ATS criteria and generates an optimized version for each job, increasing your chances of getting past the automated filter.

How does ScoutAI match jobs to my resume?

ScoutAI uses a multi-factor matching algorithm that compares your resume against each job posting. The score is weighted: skills match (45%), job description overlap with your experience (35%), title relevance (10%), and seniority alignment (10%). Location is treated as a preference, not a scoring factor. The algorithm runs locally with zero API cost — it's computed every time you view your dashboard.

What industries does ScoutAI support?

ScoutAI supports all industries — not just tech. Our job scraper pulls from 150+ sources across healthcare (nursing, medical, therapy), finance (accounting, banking, financial analysis), legal (paralegal, compliance), education (teaching, academic advising), marketing, sales, human resources, skilled trades (electrician, plumber, HVAC), government, nonprofit, hospitality, transportation, and more. The matching algorithm adapts to your profession based on your resume.

How does Quick Apply work?

Quick Apply opens the job posting in a new tab and uses the ScoutAI Chrome extension to pre-fill the application form with your profile data (name, email, phone, work authorization, LinkedIn, etc.). You review everything before submitting — nothing gets sent without your approval. It works on Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, Ashby, SmartRecruiters, BambooHR, and Workable. For other portals, you can still apply manually using the 'View Job Posting' link.

What does the humanization slider do?

The humanization slider controls the writing tone of AI-generated cover letters and tailored resumes on a scale from Corporate (formal, no contractions, structured) to Authentic (conversational, personal, natural). The default is 'Polished' — professional but approachable. Moving the slider toward Authentic adds personality, contractions, and a more human voice. This helps your application materials avoid sounding AI-generated.

ScoutAI has two plans: Free ($0 — 1 resume upload, browse jobs with Reality Scores, the Quick Apply form-filler, Ghost Job Checker, ATS Checker, STAR Story Bank, cached company research, email digest) and Pro ($9.99/month or $79/year — unlimited AI resume scoring + fix-suggestions, unlimited cover letters and tailored resumes, fresh company research, downloads to PDF/DOCX, Quick Apply AI answers, LinkedIn import, humanization slider, resume history). How many job postings are fake in 2026?

Research indicates that 27.4% of U.S. job listings on LinkedIn are ghost jobs with no intent to hire (ResumeUp.AI, 2025). A ResumeBuilder.com survey found 40% of companies posted at least one fake job in the past year. Fast Company reported 81% of recruiters have posted ghost jobs, and the National Labor Fraud Observatory documented a 217% year-over-year increase in AI-generated fake job postings. Bureau of Labor Statistics JOLTS data shows 2.2 million more job openings than actual hires every month.

How long does the average job search take?

According to High5Test's 2025 employment research, the average job search takes 5 months. During that time, job seekers send approximately 294 applications (Career.IO), spend 45 minutes per application (ApplyWise), and 75% receive zero response from employers (Interview Guys 2025 Ghosting Index). ScoutAI compresses this process by filtering out fake jobs, matching you to relevant roles, and generating application materials in seconds.
